Man Detained Over Toddler’s Involuntary Entry into Crocodile Enclosure

Man arrested after toddler lands in crocodile – A 30-year-old man from Norfolk has been taken into custody by UK authorities on suspicion of attempted murder following a toddler’s accidental entry into a crocodile enclosure at a local zoo. The incident occurred at Old Hurst Zoo, where emergency personnel were dispatched at 1:24 PM to reports of a child being found in the Tropical House, a section housing reptiles.

The toddler, who is three years old, was rushed to the hospital with severe injuries and is currently in critical but stable condition. Police confirmed that specialized officers are aiding the child and his family during their recovery. The investigation is ongoing to determine how the boy ended up in the enclosure, with no prior indication of a connection between him and the suspect.

Family and Zoo Respond with Respect

Old Hurst Zoo announced that the Tropical House will remain closed temporarily as a tribute to the affected family. In a statement, the zoo expressed its condolences, stating, “Our thoughts and prayers are with the boy and his family following the incident that occurred today.”

“At this stage we are speaking to people who were at the zoo at the time of this distressing incident to understand more about the circumstances,” said Detective Inspector Verity McCann.

Ben Obese-Jecty, a Member of Parliament for Huntington, where the zoo is located, described the situation as “critical” and emphasized that a criminal inquiry is underway. He added, “My thoughts are with the young victim and his family during a hugely traumatic and difficult time.”
