ICE Officer Engages in Firefight with Suspect Vehicle Near Jersey Shore
ICE agent shoots at fleeing vehicle – Manahawkin, New Jersey — A local law enforcement officer with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) was struck by a vehicle during a high-speed chase on Monday morning, approximately 9:30 a.m., near the Jersey Shore, Stafford Township Police stated. The incident occurred just under 10 miles from Long Beach Island, according to authorities.
Chase and Initial Exchange of Fire
Stafford Township Police indicated the officer was attempting to detain a suspect when the individual drove away in a car. The officer was hit by the fleeing vehicle, prompting a response where the agent fired shots at the car, reportedly damaging it.
“The individual was in pursuit of a suspect when the vehicle struck the officer,” police said. “The agent then fired upon the vehicle, reportedly striking it.”
Details about the suspect’s identity and the reason for the encounter remain unclear. While the injured ICE agent’s condition is currently unknown, it is also uncertain whether the suspect sustained any injuries. Law enforcement has not yet released additional information about the events leading up to the confrontation.
