What We Know About Trump’s Great American State Fair
What we know about Trump s Great – The Trump administration’s 16-day Great American State Fair has opened on the National Mall in Washington, DC, inviting visitors to explore pavilions representing all 50 states and territories. The event, designed as a modern World’s Fair, features attractions like military flyovers, film screenings, and a towering 110-foot Ferris wheel. President Donald Trump, who first introduced the concept during his 2023 campaign, has emphasized the fair as a celebration of American pride. “This is the beginning of the golden age of America,” he stated at the opening ceremony on Wednesday.
Organizers and Backers
The fair is organized by Freedom250, a Trump-affiliated nonprofit that has spearheaded multiple 250th-anniversary events. Notably, the group arranged the Rededicate 250 prayer event on the National Mall in May. Additional activities, such as an IndyCar Race in August and the Patriot Games, will take place later this year. The Patriot Games offer a $250,000 prize to two teenage winners. Admission is free, and attendees are encouraged to register through the organization’s RSVP system.
State Participation and Representation
While all states and territories are included, some have opted not to fund their own booths. Officials from Washington, Massachusetts, Illinois, North Carolina, and Connecticut cited financial constraints as the reason. In their place, volunteer groups have stepped in to showcase these states. Oregon’s Democratic governor, Tina Kotek, raised concerns about the event’s increasing political tone, calling it “shaping up to be a more partisan affair than originally presented.”
Immersive State Pavilions
Each state’s booth offers unique cultural experiences. Arizona’s display, designed by Off Madison Ave, guides visitors through a “sensory journey,” beginning with the golden light of Antelope Canyon, moving to the cool shade of a Ponderosa pine forest, and ending in a Sonoran Desert nightscape illuminated by blacklights. Oklahoma’s pavilion uses lighting and scents to simulate a prairie sunrise to dusk, while Florida highlights its citrus industry with a mini-golf course. In Montana, guests can engage in fossil-digging activities.
Additional Attractions and Themes
The fair also features events celebrating the American West, such as rodeo performances and Mexican charro shows. Therapy horse meet-and-greets provide a more personal touch. Freedom250’s mobile museums, called Freedom Trucks, use AI-generated videos and artwork to narrate the nation’s founding. Content is sourced from Hillsdale College and PragerU, both known for their ideological leanings.
Recent Adjustments and Highlights
Freedom250 recently had to cancel some concerts after artists withdrew from the lineup. Despite this, the event continues to attract diverse performers, including military bands, acrobats, and notable figures like Dr. Mehmet Oz and Usha Vance. “We’re literally gonna have hundreds of performers,” said Keith Krach, the organization’s CEO, before the fair began. “We’ve got something for everybody, you know what I mean. We’ll have great speakers.”
