Two Men Arrested After Mississippi Triple Homicide: Toddler and Relatives Killed
Two men arrested after Mississippi triple - Two men have been arrested following a triple homicide in Mississippi that left a toddler, his mother, and his aunt dead. Law enforcement authorities confirmed the arrests Monday evening after a chaotic manhunt that involved multiple agencies and culminated in the capture of the suspects. The incident, which occurred over the weekend, has sparked widespread concern about gun violence in the region, particularly in Jackson, the state capital.
Victims and Crime Scene Details
The victims, identified as Keyana Weathersby (25), her 2-year-old son Camari Givens, and her sister Erica Weathersby (30), were found slain Saturday night in Jackson. The coroner’s office described the crime scene as one of the most brutal they have encountered in recent years, with Hinds County Coroner Jeramiah Howard calling it “one of the worst” in his experience. The violence, which left a young child dead, has shaken the local community and raised questions about the motive behind the attack.
Arrests and Suspect Backgrounds
Authorities recovered a red 2020 Mitsubishi Mirage, owned by one of the victims, from the scene. Police tracked the vehicle, which was later spotted during a traffic stop attempt. When the driver failed to comply, law enforcement surrounded the car and arrested two men—Cornelius Carter (28) and Jordan Carter (28)—on charges of capital murder. The pair, who are not related by blood, also face additional accusations, including Cornelius Carter being a convicted felon in possession of a weapon.
“This is a heinous crime,” said Jackson Police Department Chief RaShall Brackney at a Sunday morning press conference. “Every first responder, from the fire department to the police, was visibly shaken by the violence and cruelty of the attack.”
The incident began with a 911 call reporting an aggravated assault at a residence in a quiet neighborhood approximately 10 miles northwest of downtown Jackson. Investigators believe the attack was premeditated, as evidenced by the methodical nature of the killings. Brackney described the suspect as “an absolute coward” and “the vilest of human beings,” underscoring the emotional toll of the event on the city’s residents. The suspect is still being sought for further interrogation.
City's Response to Rising Violence
In a statement following the arrests, Jackson Mayor John Horhn highlighted the city’s ongoing surge in gun-related violence, noting that the 39th, 40th, and 41st homicides of the year have all been caused by shootings. “We will continue to work tirelessly to hold everyone accountable,” Horhn said, expressing condolences to the family and community affected by the tragedy. He also mentioned that authorities are developing a citywide strategy to address the root causes of such violent incidents, involving collaboration with community leaders and violence prevention experts.
“My prayers are with the family and loved ones who are enduring this loss,” the mayor wrote. “Not only for my sisters, but for my nephew. He’s only 2 1/2 years old.”
Keyana Weathersby’s brother, Demarco Bailey, described the victims as “kind and hardworking” in an interview with WAPT. He emphasized the senseless nature of the killings, questioning how a young child could be targeted. “Come on now — a 2-year-old child?” he said, highlighting the emotional impact of the crime on the community. The case has drawn attention to the broader issue of gun violence in Mississippi, where such incidents have become increasingly frequent in recent months.
Authorities are continuing their investigation into the motive behind the triple homicide. While details remain scarce, the suspect’s connection to the victims and the premeditated nature of the attack are under scrutiny. The arrests of Cornelius and Jordan Carter mark a significant step in the case, but the search for answers continues. As the community mourns, officials are urging residents to remain vigilant and support initiatives aimed at reducing violent crime in the state.
