Harry and Meghan Accept King’s Invitation for Royal Residence Stay During UK Visit
Harry and Meghan accept King s invitation - Prince Harry and Meghan have accepted an invitation to reside in a royal property during their upcoming trip to the United Kingdom, marking their first return to the country in four years and signaling potential reconciliation with the royal family. The Sussex family will be joined by their children, Prince Archie, 7, and Princess Lilibet, 5, according to CNN, making this their first family visit to the UK since 2022, when they attended the late Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations.
Previous Offers and This First Acceptance
The Sussexes had previously been offered accommodation on the royal estate for any potential visits, a palace source had informed CNN earlier. However, this is the first time the family has accepted such an invitation. While their stay will include time at a royal residence, CNN understands that the trip will also involve private accommodations.
“I can’t see a world in which I will be bringing his wife and children back to the UK at this point,” Harry told the BBC last year after the UK Home Office discontinued his taxpayer-funded security arrangements when he stepped down from royal duties.
Despite this statement, the Sussex family’s current trip will benefit from existing security measures during their time at the royal residence.
Reasons for Leaving the UK and Recent Reunions
In 2020, Harry and Meghan made the unexpected decision to step away from royal duties, relocating their family to California to pursue financial independence. This move initiated a prolonged and public rift with the royal family, as the couple highlighted in televised interviews and Harry’s memoir that factors such as tabloid interference, intricate family relationships, and systemic racism in British institutions were central to their choice to leave the UK.
Harry has visited the UK multiple times, with Meghan accompanying him for Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral in 2022. However, he attended the coronation of King Charles III alone in 2023. In September of last year, Harry reunited with his father, King Charles III, after 19 months, during a private tea at Clarence House. This meeting occurred while Charles was receiving cancer treatment and sparked discussions about the possibility of mending the family’s long-standing divide.
Upcoming Engagements and Family Plans
The July trip includes Harry commemorating a year until the 2027 Invictus Games in Birmingham, a sports event for military personnel injured during service that he established over a decade ago. Additionally, he has planned other engagements in the Midlands tied to causes he advocates for. The visit begins with Invictus-related events in London, where Meghan will accompany him. Their children, however, are not anticipated to participate in any public functions, and specifics about their private activities remain undisclosed.
Since then, Harry and Meghan have maintained communication, but the prince remains distant from his brother Prince William. Most recently, Harry returned to London in January to participate in court proceedings related to a lawsuit against the Daily Mail publisher, alleging unauthorized information collection and phone hacking.
