Platner’s announcement came as he shared the news with his campaign team via a video call. She claimed he arrived drunk at her home after she asked him to stay away, then proceeded to have sex with her despite her repeated requests to stop. The incident reportedly caused her to injure herself when a sewing cabinet was knocked over, leaving a needle embedded in her leg.

Jenny Racicot, the woman who detailed the 2021 incident, stated she did not report it to authorities at the time and ended her relationship with Platner shortly afterward. When asked if she now viewed the event as rape, she affirmed, "By definition, yes, absolutely yes." Platner acknowledged the allegations as "troubling and serious" but insisted they were false, arguing they could hinder his chances against Collins.
