One Fatality and Multiple Injuries in Central Israel Shooting
Attack in Kochav Yair Sparks Security Response
One killed several wounded in suspected – Emergency responders confirmed at least one fatality and multiple injuries in a suspected terrorist incident near Kochav Yair, a town on Israel’s Green Line border. Magen David Adom, Israel’s emergency medical service, reported that a man in his 30s was fatally shot at a gas station in the area. Five others were wounded across three separate locations, with two in critical condition.
Police stated they had eliminated the suspect after identifying a vehicle linked to the attack. The term “neutralized” is commonly used to describe the killing of a suspect. A security official revealed the perpetrator was a Palestinian citizen of Israel from Tayibe, an Arab community located north of Kochav Yair. Further investigations were underway to determine if additional individuals were involved.
Second Suspect Arrested in Custody
On Sunday, authorities arrested a second suspect connected to the shooting. During the arrest, the individual attempted to injure officers with a glass bottle before being subdued. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu addressed the situation at a government meeting, commending the swift actions of response teams and police for apprehending the accomplice.
“I praise the rapid-response teams that acted immediately against the terrorists,” Netanyahu said. “I praise the officers of the Israel Police who neutralized the terrorist and apprehended his accomplice.”
Political Reactions and Statements
Far-right Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich condemned the attack, urging “profound change” for Israel’s Arab citizens and advocating stricter measures against illegal weapons. “The equation is simple: whoever accepts the state’s sovereignty will live here in peace,” Smotrich asserted. “Whoever chooses the path of terror will have their blood on their own head.”

Hamas echoed the attack, claiming it was a retaliation for “the occupation’s ongoing aggression against the Gaza Strip” and “assaults that affect our people daily in the West Bank and Jerusalem.”
